Job Title: Recreation Assistant

Job Summary: The Recreation Assistant is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation's facilities and recreational programs. This includes scheduling fields and facilities, coordinating trail tram tours, managing the concession stand, and ensuring the overall smooth operation of the office functions. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, organized, and customer-focused individual who can manage multiple responsibilities and work well with the community.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Field and Facility Scheduling:

   ○ Manage the scheduling of recreational fields, courts, and other facilities for community events, sports leagues, and other recreational activities.

   ○ Ensure that all bookings are properly logged and conflicts are resolved in a timely manner.

   ○ Maintain communication with individuals and groups renting spaces to ensure their needs are met.

2. Trail Tram Tours Coordination:

   ○ Coordinate and schedule trail tram tours for groups, ensuring that transportation and guides are available as needed.

   ○ Promote tram tours to the community and help develop programs that encourage participation.

   ○ Provide excellent customer service during tours, ensuring that participants have an informative and enjoyable experience.

3. Concession Stand Management:

   ○ Oversee the daily operation of the concession stand, including preparation, stocking, and cleanliness.

   ○ Ensure that items are properly stocked and inventory is regularly updated.

   ○ Schedule staff for shifts at the concession stand and ensure customer service standards are met.

4. Office Administration:

   ○ Handle day-to-day office duties, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and providing information to the public.

   ○ Process registrations, payments, and other documentation related to recreational programs and events.

   ○ Maintain accurate records for all facility bookings, program participants, and other related activities.

5. Team Collaboration:

   ○ Work closely with other staff members to ensure smooth coordination of events and activities.

   ○ Help with organizing and implementing community events, sports tournaments, and other recreational programming.

6. Customer Service and Community Engagement:

   ○ Provide excellent customer service to community members, event organizers, and program participants.

   ○ Address and resolve any issues or concerns from customers in a professional and timely manner.

   ○ Foster positive relationships with the community to enhance program participation and overall satisfaction.


Required Qualifications:

   ● High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field preferred.

   ● Previous experience in recreation management, facility scheduling, or event coordination.

   ● Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

   ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

   ● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

   ● Basic knowledge of office software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.).

   ● Customer service-focused with a positive attitude.


Preferred Qualifications:

   ● CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

   ● Familiarity with local recreational programs and community needs.


Physical Requirements:

   ● Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

   ● Must be able to stand for extended periods and work in outdoor environments.
