Recreation & Aquatics Internship - Summer 2025

About Story City: We are a community of 3,500 just north of Ames off I-35. We have a Recreation Center, Outdoor Pool, and lots of summer programming. We are seeking an enthusiastic intern for our Parks & Recreation department this summer.

Job Summary: Gain hands-on experience in recreation programming, facility management, and aquatics. Contribute to program development and implementation for all ages.

Dates/Hours: Mid-May to August, 20-40 hours/week.

Compensation: $13.00/hour.

Key Responsibilities:

• Program Development: Create/implement 2-3 programs, oversee execution, and evaluate success.
• Facility Operations: Assist with daily operations of the pool and recreation center, including opening/closing, safety, and patron assistance.
• Administrative/Customer Service: Use computer systems, provide customer service, and assist with events.
• Aquatics Support: Assist with pool maintenance, lifeguards, and swim lessons.

Essential Functions: Facility supervision, patron over-site, registration, program planning, and working with varied populations.

Minimum Requirements:

• Priority given to those enrolled in recreation, sports management, or related fields.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word/Excel, and ability to learn new programs.
• Flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends).
• Attend pre-season training.

Abilities: Lift 50 lbs, excellent communication, teamwork, organization, and interaction with all ages. Outdoor work required.
